did that just happen?

you know what i thoroughly enjoy? visiting megan at the library. it's lovely to see her beautiful face and we have DEEP conversations from time to time. we've definitely had a few fiascos during these visits. here is my favorite one:

visiting megan at the north desk. we're having a really deep convo about the gospel. this guy is talking to the girl on the other desk. he was joking around, introducing her to prospective customers as the finest lab consultant on the block. megan laughs, requests an introduction of herself from him. they joke around--it happens with boys and girls at utah state. i'd say mild flirtation is a common occurrence 'round these parts.

He asks her name.
"Megan."

"Where are you from, Megan?"
"Sandy."

"Sandy... So what high school did you go to?"
"Alta."

(Now, am I the only one that noticed that this guy doesn't talk about himself at all?)

"When did you graduate?"
"Just last year."

"Okay, so do you know a Gilly? ... Gilly Olsen?"

I froze. Was this seriously happening? Do I know him? How does he know me?
Megan looked at me as if to ask through eye contact, "Who is he? Are you two playing a joke on me or something?"

"Uh.... That's me... I'm Gilly Olsen.... What's your name?"

He was my sister's friend. My sister's friend--who was thoroughly and understandably embarrassed! Luckily for him, embarrassment is my forte!

"EXCUSE ME, I'D LIKE TO MAKE AN ANNOUNCEMENT: UH... THAT JUST HAPPENED!"

We were all dissolved in laughter! It was a great day.

Megan and I have great times at the library. One day a girl she worked with asked if we were sisters. What do we do? Simultaneously fist pump and say "YES!!" Which made the girl's question even more understandable.

Sometimes Megan's cousin comes in. He's a hoot. I never say that, but I feel it's appropriate.

Good times, we have. Good times.

In fact, I'd say it's always a pleasure.

that awkward moment...

...when we'll call him "homeboy" can't take a hint.
Upon arriving to work this afternoon I was greeted by my cousin Anthony. We were in the Library so you can imagine the traffic created by students coming and going. Me and Anthony had been talking just long enough to exchange the normal "hi" "how are your classes going so far" blah blah blah, the typical talk for the first week of school. Then a couple of Anth's friends walked in so I peaced out and clocked into work.

I was at work for no longer then five minutes when homeboy walked up and started talking to me. Conversation was light just talking about our Christmas's and such. Then just when I thought there was nothing left to talk about anymore he somehow kept finding stuff to talk about. which is probably why he talked about his girlfriend.....awkward. (i know him through a friend and all our friendship has ever consisted of has been the casual "hey, how are you?" when I'm at work and he walks past. I actually didn't even remember his name until one of my friends stopped to say hi and introduced himself to homeboy. this is the part where I was listening intently to catch his name....)

You can imagine my shock when he had been talking to me for nearly half an hour because I don't recall ever really having a conversation with him before that lasted more then just a few seconds. In between talking to homeboy and picking up printed papers from the printers I caught a glimpse of Anthony waving his phone in the air at me sitting at a nearby table. "okay I thought...did he text me?" I then excused myself and told homeboy I needed to check my phone. I had the following text from Anth

"I was gonna say hi but I don't think I can anymore."

I was so confused that I even read this text to homeboy. me and my oblivious self thought he was saying that he couldn't come say hi because his friends wouldn't let him or something.... so I sent back this.

"haha does he control you?" -me

"no....just don't want to break up the love scene over there." -Anthony

Then finally I understood. and the worst part was that I had read the text to the kid that Anthony was talking about.....

"NO! please come talk to me. I'm serious. come act like you're my boyf. ha" -me

At this point I was praying that homeboy was oblivious like myself to the text which I read to him out loud!! (it is so embarrassing)

then right on time trusty Anthony arrives and plays it cool saying stuff like "hey meg, how are you?" "do you want a bagel? i'm going to go get one" after talking to Anthony for ten minutes with him clearly as my focus....I was kind of ignoring homeboy but at the same time not. anyways the whole time i'm talking to Anth Homeboy is just standing there. AWKWARD!! I mean come on...take a hint!

Meanwhile the stuff me and Anth talked about was priceless. He asked how my Christmas was and I just started gushing with excitement about how I went to a really fun Christmas eve party and started going on and on about it. (FYI the party was at Anthony's house) then Anthony would keep saying things like "well if I saw you over the break...."(which we obviously did) then my fav."were family friends" Due to the awkwardness of the whole situation (homeboy was content and not leaving/picking up the hints) Anthony excused himself and went to go sit down close by where he could still observe.

It was just mega awkward now....because here homeboy thinks A. I like this kid or B.has actually figured out that he is my cousin and just didn't say anything. At this point I had no idea what he was thinking! so I promptly stand up and fake that I have to go to the bathroom and say "thanks for coming to say hi. It was great talking to you" just in case he thought he could wait for me...  we walked to the elevator I said Ta Ta and practically ran to Anth(quietly of course because we were in the library) to laugh about what just happened.

Thank you homeboy for talking to me but there is such thing as overstaying your welcome. that's all. also it is never good to say awkward this many times in a post...never.

Always a pleasure Anth, always a pleasure. (this one is for Arthur Reed's cousin...or brother. not sure which)

the following is a public service announcement

Gilly has one zit.  Upon hearing the news I think a congratulations is in order.  Congrats Gill.  Sometime last night I received a call and once I answered I knew something was wrong.  You could hear the distress in her voice. At first I couldn’t utter a response and then the laughter erupted. (You should first understand that I was a normal person who experienced acne at that lovely youthful age of 13/14. And quite frankly I still do.) A short while later I was able to ask if this was her first ever visit from those lovely/sometimes red-headed guys.  She claims it is not the first, but in all our years of friendship I haven’t ever seen a zit on that pretty little face of hers.  Later I realized that she called because she didn’t know how to pop a zit.  I could not help myself and I again broke into another laughing fit. I guess I am practically a profesh when it comes to that.

The first few days back at school have been typical and predictable.  Everyone looked fancy-schmancy in their first day outfits.  (I am a firm believer in the third day outfit)  Then I ran into that one person who every time you see them asks if they have met you.  This is when I fake a genuine smile and turn to my REAL friend who knows my name and say “we have met 6 times!” I think this is a valid complaint coming from me because I thought I was bad with names… but 6 times? Really? Then a smoker/hipster came and asked me a question and practically blew smoke right into my mouth. I don't know how it traveled so well because we were at least three feet apart. I am currently suffering from a nauseating headache. woof  Next a boy in the computer lab kept coming up to staple papers and would say stuff like “I’ll take your word for it” and “thanks” a whole bunch. Yeah, he totally thought I was cute.
yep pretty typical alright, especially the last one.  okay okay I am only kidding.

always a pleasure

tis the new year

New Years eve has come and gone just like it does every year.  This year my friend managed to organize a party in about 30 min. The phrase "always prepared" is really fitting for Kylie. She is like a mother to me at school because she has everything you will ever need. (except super glue, she doesn't have that) So at this rockin party she planned there were even black lights. I was shocked that people just have those lying around their house. I WILL be like the Pace family one day.

The holidays sure have been fun for my family filled with wedding proposals, dental school announcements, and the newest--toothless wonder!
magic napkin works wonders
Sometimes it's nice to have a little R and R.  (I don't even know what that stands for exactly but if one of the R's is for rest then i'm all over that!)

Let me introduce you to this guy. Ethan James. He is a spectacular young man. This soon-to-be nursery goer sure is a hunk.

This is his Dad. sportin the stompies (my six-year-old sisters prized possession from Christmas)
Now if you don't mind I will introduce you to Aunt Meg. the cool, young, hip, pretty much awesome Aunt! (Meg sounds cooler than Megan right?)

kids being kids!

we're not very good at taking normal pictures. but then again I am just so hip and young that we don't have time to be normal.  I  need to think of a better word then "hip" that term seems old and outdated and well probably makes me less hip for using it.

Maggie is my really cool sister-in-law who I aspire to be like. She also birthed an adorable child.

I'm her biggest fan!

Seriously it has been so good to be with my family but i'm ready to take on the second semester of college like it's nobody's business!  Happy 2012

the conclusion

I think it's safe to say that finals week has been the best week of my college career out of the whopping four months that I have been at school.  You must think I am crazy for saying this. I will now try to explain some highlights from the infamous FINALS week.

-Not having classes meant two things, a. I could stay up late b. I didn't have to wake up at the crack of dawn! (did I mention I had a 7:30 class four days a week) (did I mention that it's over...and that I am never doing that again?)
- I saw my brother on campus for the first time. It's a big deal, be impressed.
- Many nights were unproductive because we would try to study with our neighbors. (they are pretty funny, I guess.) why is being unproductive so fun sometimes?
-A lot of hours were spent at the Lib. and a lot of Coke was consumed. (to get an idea, ask me how many times I went to the bathroom in one library visit?  okay I will tell you. FIVE times!) also I guess I should point out that this particular study ses. was 6.5 hours long.  It's a personal record that I am pretty proud of.  (That is even longer then my shifts at the lib.)  Gilly and I along with other friends found an empty classroom and made ourselves at home because well, we like to act like we own the place.  We could essentially do whatever the heck we wanted to in there. We didn't have to be quiet or act normal. Yes, we would randomly yell of frustration or suddenly start dancing to an oh so terrible song by Miley Cyrus as well as talk like brrrratz (it's a hobby of ours.) We would be doing math problems on the whiteboard and then we would draw pictures, practice our handwriting, or write love notes. I even tried to write on Gill's face.
I promise despite what it sounds like a lot of studying did take place. We just took, well, a lot of study breaks.

Meanwhile back at home my lovely neighbors somehow managed to break into my apartment and move EVERYTHING.  This is war boys, this is war!

-It was Katie's birthday this week!! oh she is just the loveliest, prettiest, and nicest friend ever! I hope you had the best birthday. You deserve it cook!
-I was at Mike and Chelsey's (brother and sis-in-law) house when I got home from Logan and we came across THE funniest blog post in my entire life. who knew one could shed so many tears from a single blog.
Click HERE to read it. You won't regret it, I promise.
-To wrap up the week I have spent the past few days with my big sister Katie. (I like to call her Kit just because no one else calls her that.)               Kit is my best friend.
Our homes are now separated by four hours. It's the saddest, never have we lived this far apart. We survive by our daily phone calls and occasional skype dates. today we spent our time crafting. It is a love of ours, really it's kind of embarrassing but I have missed it so much.  She got married this past August so It's been fun spending time with her and Collin and there cute little place together. Thanks kids for taking me in this weekend!
