Yes, I am a Freshman

The most dreaded question is quite possibly the following “what year are you in school?” You know, I think I  might even despise it.  Sometimes when my co-workers find out I am a freshman they act really surprised. I haven't figured that one out though, because it's not like I look or act older. I am pretty sure they just feel bad for me or for asking because it is almost embarrassing so they just say a whole bunch of things that are supposed to make me feel better.

Not everything about being a freshman is negative. In fact it's not negative at all. I just hate being asked and then having to tell people. (I feel a lot of judgment being passed)  For instance there have been many occasions where it is just so tempting to push your roommate around in a cart at the grocery store.  Sometimes I will say “guys we have freshman written all over our foreheads” but then continue in the typical freshman behavior because it's just too fun. And guess what, we can get away with it. For now. Believe it or not freshman year is coming to a rapid close, it seems too fast sometimes. I need to enjoy being annoying while I can, right?  Not even so much that we're annoying, but I think that once past the first year you just get boring and start taking school too seriously. (okay more seriously then any freshman does) and anyone who thinks we are annoying just forgot to have fun.

So here's to living up these last few months as a “young and wild and free” freshman!

this picture says it all. Just a typical Sunday night in 301. oh ya and our mattresses have been
in the living room all weekend, just how I like it!

the life and talent of our dear friend, whitney.

This Weekend...
the Reese's Pieces got together!
Eeee!
So G & M had a "group interview" for a summer job they're applying for (Cookie applied as well). So we planned that if it was a big group, we'd pretend like we didn't know each for our own sake--needless to say, freshman girl best friends can act a little like... well, freshman girls that are best friends. It's fine. So here's who was in the group being interviewed: myself... and ... well ... M. Awk? A little. She did splendidly! Not so hot on my part (hot.), but hey, it's whatev works out will work out! (*Side note--since the job is at a religious school that we are active in the religion of, I felt it would be appropriate if I mentioned spiritual experiences I have had to answer questions. M hadn't said anyth yet, so at the end they asked her if she would have a problem representing them. Strange? So she went on to say that she supports their school, as well as the school she and I attend--after her answer I casually dropped the line "Even though we go to USU, we keep the Honor Code..." Well yeah. Ok I thought that was funny, I guess you'd have to be there. Meh.)

So we got together and had a "Celebrate the Life and Talent of Whitney Houston" party. We were pretty shook up about her death; I mean, how inspirational of her to "let the children's laughter lead the way." (I am aware that line isn't directly in the song, but that's the gist of it!)
We celebrated it by dancing to...
I thoroughly enjoyed that music video, by the way.

Then we watched Cinderella starring Brandy and Whitney. And Whoopi. And Jason Alexander. And Bernadette. And an attractive Filipino. And Daddy Warbucks.

Now, this movie confused me for many years. You see, the Queen is Whoopi Goldberg, the King is a caucasian actor, and the Prince is Filipino...? I definitely didn't understand genetics for a while. The music is great, the colors in this film are brilliant (costumes, scenery, etc). The acting... Ok. It's a little Wonderful World of Disney Film. Cut Brandy some slack. I still love it!
Whitney:

Fall in Love When You Watch This:

Cookie and I grew up on it, we LOVE it! This was Meg's first time watching it. Naturally, she was asleep. Eeee! Actually, Koda the West Highland Terrier and I were the only ones awake; so to be obnoxious, I would make a loud and prolonged cackle during any part that was remotely funny!

I also found out that my cousin is named after Whitney Houston. .... Yep.

Well, getting together with the three of us is A.A.P.

(If you didn't catch that, it's "Always a Pleasure")

two birthday holidays: double the fun

The Birthday/ Holiday fun was started on valentines day (or should I say Ky's birthday?)

I got a little crafty and decided to whip up some peanut butter frosting to accompany the chocolate cupcakes.  And might I say it was the perfect combination, wasn't  too rich. They were yummy!

And look how cute! Somebody made tracks in the snow for me and Ky right outside our window.  signed anonymous.  You shouldn't have!

The next birthday/ holiday was president's day(or should I say Mike's birthday)?  we celebrated by going to the one and only Classic Skating.

we had one child with us...the rest were, well adults!

what a "classy" way to spend ones 25th birthday, the only way we know how! And guess what it was so much fun!

The birthday cookies brought to you by Chelsey and Mike!
Here's to birthday/ holidays and may there be many more in the future.
always a pleasure

the skort theory

I was recently asked who should make the first move, guys or girls?  Walking around campus on Friday with my friends Gilly and Taylor we we're stopped to discuss this topic in detail.  Some USU students were making a video where they got various opinions from students on campus.  Unfortunately my tidbit did not make it past the editing, dang it.

I came up with a theory it is called the skort theory. Remember those neat, neat skirts that had built in shorts? (I wore many skorts in my elementary years because I couldn't find the balance between being lady like and a child) skorts took away all my fears of showing off those, days of the week, undies. (alright so I never had those, but I'm pretending like I did because I wanted them so bad.) Anyway, back to the theory.  I don't necessarily think that only a guy can make a move. Girls should do their part as well, and at least hint if they are the least bit interested. Now i'm not saying I am going to go ask out every boy whom I find attractive because, well, that would just be weird.  Gender roles play a big part in this and most people would classify this as being forward. (my dad made it clear to me once that forward girls are annoying, funny story.)  So why not an equal combination of move making?  during the interview I compared this to the common phrase "the wearer of the pants in a relationship" If a girl does all of the work does that mean she is clearly the one who wears the pants? possibly.  So rather than a guy wearing the "pants" and a girl wearing a "skirt" each should wear a.... skort! A combination of equality in a relationship. Plus skorts are way cool! (at least back in 2002) and that my fellow ladies and gents is the skort theory.

Gilly is a star in this, yay for her! Hey at least I made it in the shot while Gilly is talking. I guess my recently discussed skort theory was too much for them to handle...or just far off topic.

So, what do you think? should guys or girls make the first move?

always a pleasure, well usually.

a weekend here a weekend there

I am a happy girl! I just purchased a blazer from the ever so famous and wonderful Nat the fat rat! If you haven't read her blog I highly recommend it. I'm serious, do it now!  Your life will be forever changed and thoroughly enhanced.

At home I journeyed on over to my brothers house to visit him and his wife.  Mike and Chelsey live close to my parents house so it seems i'm over there quite a bit, I rather like them a lot.  When Mike opened the door I was shocked that he had a pretty gnarly beard.  He no longer attends BYU and can grow a beard freely.  This is the only thing I could think of all night.
Don't you see the resemblance? I am convinced that Mike is becoming the next Santa Clause/ the next Tim Allen. It is fine by me, but only if he introduces me to Bernard.

I learned while at their home that Chelsey is extremely scared of eye drops. It is really quite funny to be there/ be the one to execute the eye dropping fun. Can you imagine how much fun eye doctors must have using that air puffy thing that can make anyone jump a sure 3 ft off of their chair.  I can imagine some of the reactions are pretty great.  I always try and stay way calm like I'm trying to impress them or something while that incredibly scary puff of air reaches my eye.

I arrived home to freshly cleaned clothes, folded, all ready for me to go back up to school in the morning.  And I thought about waking up my dad just to thank him. However I didn't, because I love him.

oh the things you take for granted before you move out.

I left home in time to make it back for my church up here.  Best decision I've ever made.  Everything about the meeting was wonderful and much needed. I am so thankful for this gospel in my life. It is the reason why I am truly happy,  my family can be together forever, I am peace with myself and my decisions, and I know that everyday if I try harder I can become just a little better.

Always a pleasure!

p.s. big news in our apt. today, but i'll spare you the details.

February 3, 2012

two steps forward and three steps back

This past week nothing too terribly exciting has happened 'round these parts. Except maybe that time when old guy asked me out.

The worst part about working somewhere like the library is that anyone can stalk you without actually really stalking you.  I guess I can't assume anything because it is pretty common to study in the same place day-after-day-after-day.  okay maybe not that common.

Everything has been driving me nuts today. For starters the wind up here this morning has been CRAE! (short for Crae Crae, which we like to say when something is REALLY crazy!)

A kid sitting a short five yards away from me is not wearing shoes. I swear if I get even the slightest whiff of anything unpleasant I'm kicking him out.(I can do that right?)  I have had a disgust for non shoe-wearers-in-public ever since my brother showed me THE picture. That's right. who knew a picture could scar someone so many years later?  Mike was in guitar class some six years ago back in high school when he sneaked THE picture of a girl who was wearing over sized gold-toe socks and no shoes. WOOF

I never knew it actually showed a picture of buzz's girlfriend in Home Alone. Makes me so happy.

and on that note....
This weekend is going to be a fun one! with roommates, best friends, and a quick visit to see the fam. I can hardly wait!

always a pleas.
